 “Mrs Robinson, you’re trying to seduce me, aren’t you?” stutters graduate Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) to middle-aged Mrs Robinson (Anne Bancroft) in one of cinema’s most famous scenes. Mike Nichols won an Oscar for his biting satirical drama, based on Charles Webb’s novel, about a boy who loves a girl (Katharine Ross) but sleeps with her bored, predatory mother. This year marks the film’s half-century.
