Woman ‘falsely claimed Grenfell payout’

 A woman falsely claimed her boyfriend died and her child was seriously injured in the Grenfell Tower fire to obtain more than £10,000 from a fund intended to help survivors, a court heard yesterday.

Joyce Msokeri, 46, from Sutton, south London, is accused of seven counts of fraud including claiming bills for accommodation to live at the Hilton Hotel in Kensington. The woman, from Zimbabwe, is alleged to have pretended she was a survivor of the blaze and falsely claimed her partner perished and her child had been left needing intensive care.

Msokeri was remanded in custody to appear at Southwark Crown Court next month. The court heard that she intends to deny the charges.
