White children are the least likely to have private tutors
WHITE children risk falling behind in the classroom because they are less likely to have private tutors.
Youngsters from ethnicminority backgrounds have a far higher rate of private tuition than those from white families, according to research by the Sutton Trust.
A Yougov poll of 2,500 secondary school children commissioned by researchers revealed that 56 per cent of Asian pupils and 42 per cent of black students said they had had a tutor, compared with just a quarter of white children.
A spokesman for the social mobility thank tank said: “High rates of private tuition among ethnic groups may reflect a strong cultural appreciation of education from which we can all learn. But it’s important all young people have access to the same educational opportunities.”
