Bossy unhelpfulness

-

SIR – I had a similar experience to Mary Croft (Letters, September 6) just yesterday. Upon finding an abandoned mobility scooter I rang the police, only to be told that, as one had not been reported missing, I should ring the council to ask for its removal.

The council said they could not remove it as it was on private land. They told me to take it to the tip, saying that if we moved it to the pavement, we would be charged with fly-tipping.

I thought the authorities were there to serve the public, not threaten them. Richard J C English
