HOW TO BE AN UNPLUGGED PARENT

-

Decide to manage your technology as a family, agree on the rules and write them down so everyone is clear

Practise what you preach by modelling behaviour and rein back your own usage

Keep all charging cables in the kitchen so children have to hand over their devices at bedtime

Encourage children to use devices in family areas so they are not alone and can interact

Let them have screen time before an activity they’re going to enjoy and give a fiveminute warning before they are meant to be coming off

Look at apps that help parents restrict time screen such as Time Lock, Screentime. Or have two Wi-fi routers – if the children’s one is timed to turn off at 6.30pm every night, there will be fewer arguments
