Gutless Conservatives

-

sir – The Tory MPS described by Fraser Nelson (Comment, September 1) sound like a lily-livered shower of spineless millennial snowflakes. Perhaps the newly refurbished Houses of Parliament should have a safe space where they can all retire for a group hug and a little cry when the hurly-burly of political life becomes too much for them to bear.

The defeatist idea that the Conservatives haven’t won a “proper” election victory since 1987 is nonsense. In 1992, John Major achieved the highest popular vote in British electoral history.

This year, despite a disastrous campaign in which the Prime Minister threw away a double-digit poll lead virtually single-handed, the party still received more votes than any winning Labour campaign has ever done.

Conservative MPS should stop whingeing, pull themselves together and get into line. David Thomas
