Hurricane aid
sir – I note Britain is giving £32 million to the hurricane-struck Caribbean. This derisory sum should be increased dramatically, with money from our £14 billion aid budget. Unlike countries led by despots who steal aid, this disaster is a worthwhile cause. John Cardwell

sir – I am dismayed at our slow and poor response to the devastation of the small islands of the Caribbean.
Many problems elsewhere are man-made – through wars, corruption or mismanagement.
Surely this is an example of where our aid should be given, where people are suffering through no fault of their own. David Vaudrey
