The Earl of Darnley

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were represente­d by Sir Thomas Dunne, accompanie­d by Lady Dunne, at a service of thanksgivi­ng for the life of the Earl of Darnley held yesterday in Hereford Cathedral.

The Dean of Hereford, the Very Rev Michael Tavinor, officiated and gave an address. Canon Andrew Piper, Precentor, read the first lesson and Lord Clifton of Rathmore (grandson) read the second lesson. Lady Katherine Sagna (daughter) read I Thank Thee, God by Elizabeth Craven. The Earl of Darnley (son) and Sir Charles Nicholson paid tribute to Lord Darnley. Oumar Sagna, the Hon Edward Bligh, Amina Sagna, Khadim Sagna and the Hon Alexander Bligh (grandchild­ren) read prayers. The Bishop of Hereford gave the blessing.

Mr David Evans, Director of Music, Hereford Cathedral School, conducted a combined choir formed of representa­tives of the Hereford Cathedral School Senior Chamber Choir, Cantabile, and the Saturday Music School Adult Choir.

The Bishop of Ludlow, the Rt Rev Anthony Priddis, the Rt Rev John Oliver and Canon Chris Pullin, Chancellor, were robed.

The Vice Lord-lieutenant for Herefordsh­ire and the High Sheriff for Herefordsh­ire, accompanie­d by Lord Lisvane, attended.

The Chairman of Herefordsh­ire Council and Mrs Wilcox, were present.

The Mayor of Hereford was represente­d by Councillor Chris Chappell.
