SIR – The article by Dylan Jones about David Bowie (Features, September 9) said that one should “beware displaying too much honesty with rock stars: when they ask you what you think of their new record, it’s best if you say it’s probably the best thing they’ve ever done”.

When I asked my much-loved friend Rosalyn Tureck, the great Bach pianist, what she said to a colleague when she visited the dressing-room after a performance which she didn’t like, she replied: “Darling, it’s easy! I always say: ‘I’ve never heard anything like it!’” Gabriel Lavelle
