The Documentary: The Gardeners of Kabul
WORLD SERVICE, 1.30PM
During recent wars Kabul has survived immense destruction. But this documentary turns on its head the way many of us think about the capital of Afghanistan. Rather than showing a scene of catastrophe, this programme paints Kabul as something of an Eden, from the carefully restored Babur’s Garden, first built in the 16th century and now enjoyed as a public space, to the spectacular private gardens tended by citizens of all ages. It’s a lifeaffirming window into another side of the city.
