Anti-feminist MP elected to sit on women’s committee
ONE was in a pop band that sang about wanting to smash women in the face, while the other denounced “feminist zealots” at a men’s rights conference.
So it came as a surprise to many female voters yesterday to discover that Jared O’mara, the Labour MP, and Philip Davies, the Conservative MP, had been chosen to sit on the Commons Women and Equalities Committee.
Twitter users said the choice of Mr Davies was “disgraceful” while the overall make-up of the committee was “a farce”.
Mr O’mara was once in a band called the Dirty Rotten Troubadours, which sang a song including the words: “I wish I were a misogynist, I’d put her in her place, I wish I were a misogynist, I’d smash her in the face.”
Mr Davies, meanwhile, has repeatedly spoken out against what he has described as “militant feminists”.
