Tunnel vision
SIR – The money for a tunnel under Stonehenge (report, September 12) does not exist. It will have to be borrowed and will increase the national debt, on which we already pay £1 billion in interest every week. A dual carriageway would do the job and be much cheaper.
Meanwhile, here in Amesbury, two miles from Stonehenge, it seems we cannot afford to fix the potholes in our roads, or keep the public toilets open, or keep the street lights on at night. Ian Hurrell

SIR – I have always thought that Stonehenge would make an excellent roundabout. Janice Haynes
