Doctor, doctor, I think I’m addicted to this mad TV show

-

Last night on Doctor Foster, 15-year-old Tom went to the GP complaining of anxiety. Can you blame him? The poor kid has got the parents from hell. In the first series of the BBC One drama, Tom’s dad, Simon (Bertie Carvel), was a lying, cheating creep who got a girl pregnant and left town after knocking Tom’s mother unconscious. Quite a nice bloke, really, compared to the dad of series two. Simon has morphed into a perma-smirking devil hell-bent on driving his exwife out of their son’s life.

As for Dr Foster herself, she handled the news that Simon, his new wife and baby were moving into a £2 million house round the corner with all the cool professionalism and stoical wisdom you would expect from a senior GP.

Just kidding! Gemma has gone absolutely mental. With feelings rippling across her face like wind across the water, the beautiful Suranne Jones is clearly doing her level best to make emotional sense of this nutty melodrama.

Don’t bother, Suranne! All you need to know is the first series got huge ratings so the Beeb wanted to produce a sequel, even though there was nowhere for the story to go. Except into the realms of the absurd.

It is one of the most bonkers things I have ever seen on TV. But, hang on, Doctor… I’m addicted!
