Help to clear away waves of plastic

-

Surfers Against Sewage is calling on volunteers to become beach clean leaders to help batten down the hatches against winter’s plastic pollution storms.

The team is looking for 300 nature lovers to organise autumn beach cleans during the week of Oct 23 to 29.

Cold and windy winter conditions can worsen the problem of pollution ending up on beaches.

Beach clean leaders aim to unite and inspire local coastal communities to take action to care for beaches all year round.

With as many as 51trillion microplastic particles – 500 times more than there are stars in our galaxy – polluting the world’s seas and killing millions of marine wildlife each year, the crisis facing our oceans is said to be nearing the point of no return.

Register as a beach clean leader at sas.org.uk/our-work/beach-cleans. Samantha Herbert
