Road rage driver forced cyclist into hedge
A motorist who lost his cool while trying to overtake cyclists and sent one of them flying into a hedge, has been jailed for using his car “as a weapon”.
John Rafferty, 50, blared the car horn, swerved in among the group that included two 12-year-old boys and sprayed his screen wash so they got wet. When the lead rider remonstrated, Rafferty drove at him, sending him flying into a hedge. At Derby magistrates’ court, Rafferty, from Burton, was jailed for 16 weeks after pleading guilty to dangerous driving. The judge told him he could have caused “catastrophic injuries.”
