£7m ‘robbery’ was like a Hollywood heist

-

A SECURITY guard was tied up and “robbed” of £7 million in an “inside job” worthy of a Hollywood script, a court has heard.

Jurors were told how Loomis van security guard Ranjeev Singh and driver Mohammad Siddique were taking cash belonging to Credit Suisse from Heathrow airport to the Bank of Ireland.

They picked the money up at around 8.30am and a short time later, Singh got out to go to the lavatory. When he came back, however, Siddique had driven off. But Kingston Crown Court was told that instead of raising the alarm, Singh waited 20 minutes.

The prosecution alleges that during that time Siddique was helping to shift the cash into a waiting car before he was bound and dumped in a remote area.

Siddique, 31, and Singh, 40, are both charged with conspiracy to steal. Prosecutor Sandip Patel QC said Siddique admits his involvement. “He says he took part in the offence, but this defendant says he was forced to do it; he had to go along because he had no choice as he had been threatened and his family had been threatened.”

Jurors heard that Rafaqat Hussain, 41, has already admitted his part in the plot and was described as one of the organisers, making arrangements with Siddique and Singh, both of Slough. They deny one count of conspiracy to steal £7million. The trial continues.
