G4S took cash for vacancies it did not fill, says whistle-blower

- By Kate Mccann

SECURITY firm G4S has been overcharging the Home Office by taking cash for vacancies at an immigration centre that it deliberately does not fill, a whistle-blower has told MPS.

The allegations were made by a former G4S manager who claimed it made profits of 30 per cent on the contract – more than it was supposed to.

Reverend Nathan Ward, who until 2014 was duty director at Brook House detention centre near Gatwick Airport, told MPS at the Home Affairs Select Committee: “Staff vacancies are held and vacancies are £26,000 a year so you can see how profit is made quite quickly.”

Peter Neden, regional president at G4S, refused to explain how much profit it makes at the Brook House centre and denied claims the firm gave the Home Office incorrect costing and staff lists in order to make more money than it should have done.

He told the committee he “did not recognise” the allegations.
