Scrub with solid soap for a clean conscience

-

sir – Like Dr Peter Tosoni (Letters, September 13), I dislike liquid soap and prefer bars – Pears in particular.

My personal preference aside, liquid soap is supplied in plastic bottles and each purchase adds to the mountain of plastic that is destroying our planet.

sir – I share Dr Tosoni’s fear that soap as we know it will disappear.

A little while ago, when experiencing difficulty finding soap in a supermarket, I asked a member of staff if he could show me where I might find it.

He looked very puzzled but eventually said: “Oh, you mean cleansing bars.”

sir – When my five-year-old greatgrandson visited, we could not work out why he kept going to the lavatory.

My granddaughter later explained that he had never seen bar soap and liked washing his hands with it.

sir – I certainly do not regret the demise of bar soap.

I only remember it to be elusive in the bath, difficult to capture on the shower floor and soggy sitting in the soap dish. If left too long, this resulted in a residue that needed to be chipped away and scrubbed vigorously.

In answer to Michael Edmond (Letters, September 14), the key to applying shower gel is to apply it to the side of your body facing away from the water, and quickly swivel round.
