‘Secret Millionaire’ guilty of manslaughter

 A property developer who appeared on The Secret Millionaire has been jailed for manslaughter after a carpenter fell through a ceiling a year after safety warnings.

Mike Holland, who appeared in an episode of the Channel 4 show, was handed a nine-month prison sentence alongside Grant Oakes, his site foreman, after a jury found them both responsible for the death of carpenter Dave Clark, 55, who fell five metres through a void in the first floor ceiling of the Stanmer Park stables development in Brighton in September 2014. He was paralysed and died a month later after being in a coma.

The court heard the Health and Safety Executive had warned Holland the development was dangerous a year before the incident. Holland’s company Cherrywood Investments, now known as Threadneedle Estates, was fined £120,000.
