A check too far

SIR – I bought a bottle of alcohol-free wine from Tesco. This had to be authorised by the assistant. The next day I tried to buy a pack of mussels in white wine sauce. This would not self-scan as it also had to be approved.

Alcohol sales need to be controlled, but to take it to these limits is absurd. Trisha Kirkham
