Invisible force

SIR – You report (September 13) that policemen on the beat will be cut to fund a 2 per cent pay rise.

I have never seen a policeman on the beat here. We have a lovely large police station, generally with several police cars outside, but the only time I wanted to report something at the station (four years ago) I had to use the intercom on the front door connected to Norwich (40 miles away).
