‘Cover up’ over gap-year death in Cambodia
The parents of an 18-year-old who died during a gap year in Cambodia have accused the local authorities of a “cover up” after failing to get their son proper medical attention.
Serena and Guy Mallinson, from Bridport, Dorset, told an inquest in Bournemouth that their son, Kit, was on a night bus on Dec 11 last year when he was found unconscious.
A private ambulance crew refused to take him because they did not have his insurance documents, despite them being in his rucksack.
Coroner Rachael Griffin said: “On the balance of probabilities, the delay in his medical treatment was contributory to his death.”
