‘Un-islamic’ beer festival cancelled

Malaysian authorities have scrapped an annual beer festival after an Islamist party objected to the sixth annual event planned for the first weekend of October in Kuala Lumpur.

Though there are plenty of beer drinkers among the Chinese and Indian minorities, protests against events deemed to be “western” and un-islamic are common in Muslim-majority Malaysia.
