AND FINALLY WHAT TO BUY NOW
Smart jumpsuits
That is, not denim ones, nor glorified children’s rompers. Emilia Wickstead’s dusty rose would work for a wedding, Amanda Wakeley’s dark khaki and Joseph’s beige for the office. COS and MIH Jeans have good versions for day available now, or try Galvan and Topshop (right) for black-tie jumpsuits.
Trench coats
The shape may be a classic, but it’s been reinvented in undyed linens and rough beige and khaki cottons for spring. Margaret Howell (right) and Isa Arfen’s were particularly good, and worth investing in – though for the autumn cold snap ahead, try Marks & Spencer.
Pink
From sugar mouse at Preen (right) and pepto-bismol at Emporio Armani to highlighter neon at Roksanda – it’s the bright to buy now. Topshop’s dopamine releasing pinks are in store now, but if it really isn’t your colour, take your cue from Pringle of Scotland’s acid-lemon shades and A by Jisgaw’s warmer yolk yellows (on sale now).
Coloured leather
Joseph did it best, from bottle-green trousers (right) to a lilac leather suit (though we’d wear the jacket with jeans instead). There’s good coloured leather in store at Uterque now, from a red leather shirt to a long blue belted jacket, and it’s a great weight for in-between seasons.
White dresses
If you’re planning a wedding, you’re in luck. White dresses opened the show at Simone Rocha, Molly Goddard (left) and Roksanda, and closed it at Antonio Berardi. There were draped silks and ruched cottons, slinky figure-huggers and flowing trapeze lines: and as we’re not walking down the aisle, we’ll be pairing them with black boots and a black coat. CGE
