World’s richest woman dies
Liliane Bettencourt, the L’oréal heiress and the world’s richest woman, died at her Paris home yesterday at the age of 94, her daughter has announced. “Liliane Bettencourt died this night. She left peacefully,” Françoise Bettencourtmeyers said. Mrs Bettencourt was reported to have a fortune of £29 billion last year, making her the world’s 14th richest person. In later life, she had been at the heart of a legal battle over whether she was of sound mind when she gave €1billion in art and life insurance to a photographer. In 2015, a French court found eight people guilty of taking advantage of her dementia.
