Isil’s last bases in Iraq under attack

Iraqi forces yesterday launched an operation to retake the town of Hawija – one of the country’s last strongholds of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil).

The operation began just two days after Iraqi soldiers launched an offensive against Isil positions in the vast western Anbar province. Earlier this month, Iraqi and Us-led coalition planes increased airstrikes on Hawija.
