SIR – We are told that boys do better at physics because they learn about projectile motion while engaging in playful urination (report, September 16). The learned researcher­s tell us that there is “no simple way” to provide girls with the same opportunit­ies to explore projectile motion.

This is not so. During the Fifties I spent many happy hours behind a garden hedge with a water-filled washing-up liquid bottle, squirting passing cars. I invariably had more hits than my brothers. Rosemary Webb
