Lady Lucan found dead at her home in Belgravia

- By Sophie Jamieson

LADY LUCAN has died at the age of 80 at the same home from which her husband disappeared more than 40 years ago.

She had been reported missing by a friend when she did not turn up to Green Park, where she walked daily.

Veronica, the Dowager Countess of Lucan, was one of the last people to see Lord Lucan alive before he vanished in 1974, after he attacked her and the family’s nanny Sandra Rivett was found bludgeoned to death.

Last night police forced entry to her home in Belgravia after concerns were raised for her welfare, and found her dead inside.

Her son George said she had passed away alone and “apparently peacefully” at home. He told the Daily Mail: “Police were alerted by a companion to a threeday absence and made entry today.”

Lady Lucan wrote earlier this year in a memoir about what happened on the night of 7 November 1974 when Lord Lucan vanished. She described how she was beaten and belittled for years by her husband, and had suffered from depression. And in an ITV documentary she made an extraordinary apology for the nanny’s death.

Lady Lucan’s death is being treated as unexplained by police, but is not believed to be suspicious.
