Terror suspect arrested near No 10 denies plot

A suspected terrorist detained near Downing Street has denied plotting a knife attack. Khalid Ali, 27, from Edmonton, north London, was held by police in Whitehall and was allegedly carrying three bladed weapons.

Ali appeared via video link from Belmarsh prison yesterday. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of preparation of a terrorist act on or before April 27, and two counts of having explosives with intent to endanger life outside the UK. Ali faces a three-week trial at the Old Bailey starting on Nov 6.

Meanwhile, three men who were arrested in connection with the Parsons Green Tube attack in west London were released with no further action.
