Nature’s tumble dryer

SIR – Yesterday morning I learnt that, when weather conditions are favourable, more electricity is being produced than needed. We are therefore asked to use our tumble dryers on sunny, windy days (report, September 26).

I do not have a tumble dryer, but why would anyone need to use one on an ideal day for outside drying? Ann Gibb
