The last word

sir – Tony Booth (Obituaries, September 27) had decided views, even aged five. We were in the same form when he told us he had seen the Eddie Cantor comedy, Roman Sandals.

The teacher pointed out that the film was called Roman Scandals. Tony patiently explained that the Romans wore sandals, and that was the name of the film. We all agreed he made sense. The teacher realised she had met her match and left it there.
