Why would body image weigh on Kate’s mind?
Kate Winslet says she hasn’t weighed herself for 12 years and, frankly, you’d think she just ’fessed up to being lookout for the Brink’s-mat robbery. Shock! Consternation! Just a little bit of outrage!
That motherof-three Winslet has pulled off the feat of being both a Hollywood A-lister and a normal woman is arguably a greater achievement than her Oscar, three Baftas and four Golden Globes combined.
Now aged 41, she has been a size 14 and a size 10 over the years and always voluptuously herself. That’s no easy thing in an imageobsessed industry that had given rise to lollipop ladies (thus named because they’re so superskinny their heads look enormous) such as Renée Zellweger and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Winslet divulged her no-scales secret while publicising her new film, The Mountain Between Us, in which she and Idris Elba play survivors of a plane crash.
In the movie, Elba has to drag her from a stream, which she said was “pretty hard on him”, given her body weight plus her soaking clothes.
She need not worry. At 6ft 2in, Elba’s a big lad. Besides, however heavy Winslet may be, every last ounce is pure quality.
