Mother hid dead baby in drain

- By Olivia Rudgard

A FORMER Marks & Spencer HR executive hid her dead baby in a drain at her parents’ house, only for a plumber to find the body three years later.

Sinead Connett admitted concealing the baby, which she said was stillborn, in a towel and three M&S bags before putting him into a drainage pit at the bottom of her parents’ garden in August 2013.

The body was found three years later when her father called a plumber to the address in Grimsby, Lincs, to deal with an issue with the lavatory.

Connett, aged 29, told officers she had been “shocked” to discover that she was pregnant and was terrified her partner, the father, would leave her.

Sentencing Connett to 12 months in prison for concealing the birth of a child at a hearing at Grimsby Crown Court yesterday, Judge Jeremy Richardson described her act as “so dreadful that it almost defies description”.
