Sir John Rutter, please

SIR – How I agree with the letter from Hilary Bentley (September 29), calling for John Rutter to be knighted. His beautiful carols and many other superb compositions are sung the world over.

I had the good fortune to meet him in May on a flight to Ireland and he could not have been nicer.

He thoroughly deserves a knighthood.
