Picked too soon
SIR – I beg to differ with John Atkins (Letters, October 2). A Discovery apple is as good as a Worcester: at their best they are both excellent.
The particular problem with them, and many other apples, is that they are picked too soon. Early varieties should ripen on the tree.
When you can find English apples, buy them – but for the authentic taste of a Worcester Pearmain, for example, you have to grow your own.
