Police discover bank plot gang’s £1m tunnel

Bank robbers completed a tunnel a third of a mile long only to be arrested just before they could use it.

Brazilian police foiled the plot in which the gang had spent £1million building the tunnel to a Sao Paulo branch of the Banco do Brazil.

Sao Paulo officials said their agents had been monitoring the gang for three months but only discovered the tunnel on Monday.

Officers arrested 16 suspects before the planned heist. They allegedly told police they hoped to steal £239million.
