Judges reject ‘right to die’ case of dying man
A terminally-ill man is to appeal against a decision denying him a say over how and when he will die.
Neil Conway, 67, a retired lecturer from Shrewsbury, said he was “entombed” by his motor neurone disease and was unable to attend the High Court yesterday to hear three judges dismiss his application to declare the Suicide Act 1961 incompatible with Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which relates to respect for private and family life.
He wants doctors to be allowed to help bring him a “peaceful and dignified” death. As the law stands, assisting him would be a crime.
