Rights activists face 15 years’ jail in Turkey

Turkish prosecutor­s have demanded up to 15 years’ jail for 11 human rights activists who are accused of “giving help to an armed terror group”.

It comes after 50,000 arrests following last year’s failed coup attempt against Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the country’s president.

The accused include Idil Eser, the director of Amnesty Turkey, several prominent Turkish rights activists, a German citizen and a Swedish citizen.
