Mogul’s actions could leave wife’s Marchesa fashion brand in tatters
HARVEY WEINSTEIN last night made a desperate bid for public rehabilitation by saying he hoped to be reconciled with his wife.
The shamed Hollywood producer said he was receiving counselling for what he has described as his behavioural issues and that he hoped to be part of Georgina Chapman’s life again.
Weinstein spoke hours after Ms Chapman said she was leaving him as a result of allegations from actresses and other women in the industry that he had sexually assaulted and pestered them over several decades.
In a statement he said: “I support her decision. I am in counselling and perhaps when I am better we can rebuild.”
Weinstein, who is understood to have attended a clinic to get treatment for “sex-addiction”, added: “Over the last week, there has been a lot of pain for my family that I take responsibility for. I sat down with my wife Georgina, who I love more than anything, and we discussed what was best for our family.”
Ms Chapman, a British-born fashion designer who has had two children with Weinstein, had earlier stated: “My heart breaks for all the women who have suffered tremendous pain because of these unforgivable actions. I have chosen to leave my husband.”
The swirl of accusations surrounding Weinstein has placed his estranged wife’s own business interests under scrutiny, with claims from the US that he put pressure on actresses to wear outfits from her Marchesa range at premieres.
Her brand appears to have already suffered, with Helzberg Diamonds announcing it would stop plans to work with Marchesa’s diamond collection.
Among stars said to have been “encouraged” to wear Marchesa was British actress Sienna Miller, who wore a gown at the 2007 Golden Globes.
Her film Factory Girl was produced by Weinstein’s company.
