RSPCA called to a bird in the sand

-

A quick-thinking member of the public used seaweed and a message drawn in the sand this week to direct the RSPCA to an injured gull.

RSPCA Cymru was contacted after a badly injured gull was seen on a beach at Swansea Bay.

The caller was unable to remain with the bird so used pebbles, stones and seaweed to make a circle around the gull, then drew a large arrow in the sand, pointing to the bird, along with a message. The charity attended shortly after, but found the bird so badly injured that the only humane thing to do was to destroy it.

RSPCA officer Nicole Wallace said: “This was definitely a first for me. I’ve never been directed to an animal in this way before.

“The innovative caller was really looking out for this poor gull, and we’re grateful to them for caring for, and championing, animal welfare.” Samantha Herbert
