For a quiet life

SIR – For a relaxed meal in comfortable surroundings, I for one appreciate the facility of a dining room (Letters, October 11).

Our kitchen is noisy with the rumblings of the dishwasher and the fan-assisted ovens, the pinging microwaves and toasters, the extractor fan and oil-powered boiler – not to mention the washing machine and spin-dryer in the adjacent utility room. Crombie Glennie
