‘Terror plotters’ on trial

Married couple vied over who was more radical

- Nicola Harley

Married terror plotters boasted about who was more radical, a court has heard. Madihah Taheer and her husband, Ummariyat Mirza, both 21, from Birmingham, are accused of plotting to commit a terror act. The pair bragged on social media over who was more radicalised, Woolwich Crown Court was told.

Ms Taheer is alleged to have bought a hunting knife and “life size training dummy” for her husband to help him prepare to attack.

Jurors heard Mirza admitted preparing to commit terrorist acts, while his wife denies the offence.

The court was read texts between the pair, who shared Isil propaganda as their romance bloomed. In one, Mirza told his partner: “I’m more radical than you. I introduced you to ISIS … and Jihad. You’re my student.” She wrote back: “Sit down, Mr Moderate.”

The trial continues.
