Ivory miniature threat

-

SIR – I have been collecting 17th- and 18th-century portrait miniatures for three decades and I now have a large collection.

In the early 18th century, ivory became the preferred medium on which the artists of the day would create these superb works of art.

Many are of great historical and cultural importance and the ability to be able to continue to acquire them must be preserved.

The Government’s current consultation on ending all ivory trade (report, October 6) must give careful consideration to this and exclude these very important works of art from any future ban. DC Miles Griffiths
