The back of the sofa
SIR – The Royal Mint claims there are 500 million old pound coins still in circulation. That is £7.62 for every man, woman and child in the UK. Where do they think they all are? I am guessing on the beach, in the garden, lost in overseas visitors’ luggage, and down the back of the sofa.
I doubt the Royal Mint will see many of them returned – no matter how long they wait. David Sleath
