Violins commemorate World War 1 poets

-

A violin maker has crafted three violins from a tree in the grounds of a former shell-shock hospital in honour of three First World War poets.

Steve Burnett used sycamore from Craiglockhart where Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon were treated, with one in honour of Robert Graves who met Owen and Sassoon in Edinburgh. They were played together for the first time at Baberton Golf Club, Edinburgh as a plaque was unveiled to mark 100 years since the meeting.

Mr Burnett said: “The violins will be there to spread the word of hope and peace and harmony.”
