Footballer Weah leads election in Liberia
George Weah, the former footballer, and Joseph Boakai, the incumbent vice-president, will go head to head in a run-off presidential vote, Liberia’s electoral commission announced.
Mr Weah had taken 39 per cent of votes with 95.6 per cent of polling stations declared. Mr Boakai was in second place with 29.1 per cent.
No candidate achieved the 50 per cent needed to avoid a run-off in Tuesday’s first round of voting.
