Flames of passion

-

SIR – I was amused to read the story of the boules player whose boules were mistaken for a bomb by airport security (report, October 13).

My wife had a similar experience a few years ago. She liked to take a couple of candles with her for our romantic suppers on the balcony of the flat we rented in France. One year she put them in her hand luggage, and was stopped because on the X-ray they looked like sticks of dynamite. Even though, on inspection, they were clearly harmless, they were still confiscated.

Fortunately, you can buy candles in France, so romance still blossomed. Michael Gwynne Alton, Hampshire
