Sean Hughes, writer and comedian, dies at 51
SEAN HUGHES, the comedian, has died aged 51, after being rushed to hospital with cirrhosis of the liver.
The London-born Irish stand up and actor was best known for being a panellist on BBC Two’s Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and for writing and starring in his own sitcom, Sean’s Show, in the early Nineties.
His death, which was confirmed by a representative, came just over a week after he posted his final tweet on Oct 8, in which he told his followers he was in hospital.
Cirrhosis is caused by long-term liver damage.
Hughes wrote in The Irish Times in 2014 of his relationship with alcohol. He wrote: “When I started drinking again, I thought my friends would be concerned, but they welcomed my return with a ‘great to have you back’ attitude.”
