English clubs prosper in Champions League

Tottenham Hotspur last night held the champions of Europe to a 1-1 draw in Madrid. In a pulsating match, Hugo Lloris, the Spurs goalkeeper, was hailed as a hero after making several crucial saves against Real Madrid. The north London team also had several late chances to pull off a huge upset and beat the Galacticos. An own goal saw Tottenham go ahead before Cristiano Ronaldo levelled from a penalty. Elsewhere, Manchester City beat Napoli 2-1 away, and Liverpool humbled NK Maribor 7-0 in Slovenia.
