-

♦a widower killed an 80-year-old in a car crash because his night shifts made him so tired, a court heard.

Arthur Yate, 69, was suffering from severe fatigue after working night shifts to repay £50,000 of his late wife’s debts. It is thought he nodded off as he drove to work at Sainsbury’s in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

Yesterday, at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, Yate sobbed as he admitted causing death by careless driving and failing to stop after an accident. He was jailed for eight months and banned from driving for 15 years.
